Lois Lowry’s novel the giver takes place in the future sometime in December. Powerful people in the community are hunting down Jonas because he wants to spread the truth about the “FAKE” world they all live in. With the big help from the giver, he makes sure that Jonas is secure at almost all times. But of course sense Jonas is young he thinks he knows it all and wants to do what he thinks best(even though he didn’t know about the past). He knows about the real world and wants to help others. The main lesson of the book is to always do the right thing even if others drag you down.

In the beginning Jonas has the average life and no need to stand up for anything. He lives in a great house and goes to the perfect school .He’s got a normal schedule every day after school. Jonas has the perfect life and family. But the community committee has been lying to every one about what’s really happening and the fake lives they live in. Jonas is the only one who figures out the truth of what’s really happening. Jonas has mixed emotions in the beginning about the truth of all of this. This is how the author starts to develop the theme throughout the novel. Right then and there he’s not sure of what to think and how he should handle this.

Now in the middle of the book, Jonas has now been feeling about how to get the word out towards the community. This also goes with the theme because he now figures out what he thinks he should do to help the community. BUT…. All of this was only because of the giver. The giver is the one who is giving Jonas the knowledge about the world. He gives the knowledge through memories of the past. Whether it’s the beating sun on a sunny day, or the snowy hill on a chilly day. He is somewhat about helping Jonas out with figuring out how to help the community understand the knowledge without the council in the community hunting him down.

Then, the theme comes to an end when Jonas has a plan to help the community. The giver gives him supplies like a back pack to hold water, food, flashlight, etc. The giver knows he can’t stop Jonas from going out there alone, so the only way to ” have your young bird fly” is too help them with their very difficult task. Of sneaking him through the community. He wants to make sure that the community knows. In Jonas’s opinion, they need to know.

Finally, The conclusion has come. The theme of the story has progressed through the book great. It talks about what the problem is in the beginning. It shows the conflict of thought throughout the middle, including the memories. Now the end was the best part. It talks about him taking initiative at what he really wants in life. All of this goes with the theme because it shows him doing the right thing(that no one else even dared to think about doing) even when others are trying to hunt him down.
